Hi there! Iโ€™m Maura. ๐Ÿ‘‹ ๐Ÿ˜Š

I am a Philadelphia-based UX Consultant & UX Researcher with a special interest in accessibility. I find myself on a never-ending journey to discover the โ€œwhyโ€™sโ€ of human behavior.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Temple University. After working in psychiatric rehabilitation and in-home social work, I sought to transition my person-first advocacy into the technology realm. Returning to community college as a non-degree seeking student, I explored visual communication and strategies for integrating design with technology. This experience solidified my desire to blend design thinking, psychology, and research into my career.

I went on to obtain my Master of Science in User Experience from Arizona State University. Here I learned how to incorporate graphic information technology, technical communication, and human systems engineering strategies into the design process. I now look forward to uncovering the many โ€œwhyโ€™sโ€ of user experience, and developing collaborative solutions.

Who I am is how I design! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป ๐ŸŽจ

#1: I am a passionate creator.

Whether sewing copious amounts of scrunchies to sell on my Etsy shop, The Shop by Maura, or bringing iPad sketches to life with my Cricut machines, I am constantly taking the ideas buzzing in my head and composing them with my hands. When in doubt, you can find me (and my wallet) at Michaelโ€™s Craft Store. ๐Ÿ˜‰

#2: I am an advocate.

One psychology principle I live by personally and professionally is that I am never the expert over someone elseโ€™s life experiences. I walk alongside others with curiosity to hold their experiences without judgement. In doing so, I can deeply empathize with their perspective, advocate for their needs, and collaboratively craft solutions. Whether working in the psych field, UX, or my everyday life, that mentality does not waver. ๐Ÿง

#3: I am a lifelong learner.

I move with curiosity and a desire to grow. I strive to learn something new everyday, and find value in both failure and success. Recently I completed an AI for Designers course certificate through the Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF). Currently I am working on a Service Design course through the IxDF as well! ๐Ÿ™Œ
